Coaching Update

Mark Mc Kenzie, SRU Performance Development Manager, will be presenting a specialist coaching update on KICKING : TECHNICAL and TACTICAL at Perthshire RUFC on Monday 6th April starting at 6.45pm and finishing some 80-90 minutes later.
Academy player attendance is expected on the night but there is an invitation to all local coaches and senior players to attend.

Perthshire RUFC Easter Rugby Camps

Perthshire RUFC are holding a 3 day Rugby Camp during the first days of the Easter Holiday.
Starting on Monday 6th April and finishing on Wednesday 8th the camps run from 10am and finish at 3.30pm.All the sessions will be held in Perth at the North Inch and there is the choice of daily attendance at £15 per person or all 3 days for £35 per person.All those attending receive a camp T-shirt.
Over the 3 days there will be a mixture of individual skills training and group skills covering line out,scrummaging and support play.There will be a number of different rugby games to develop decision making and team play.
There are two age groups bands of P4-P7 and S1-S4.

Selection Success for Angus

Breadalbane Aacademy pupil Angus Broad(aged 15) has become the first player from Highland Perthshire to be Selected for the Perthshire RFC Rugby Academy.
The Perthshire RFC Academy is run at the North Inch/Bell`s Sports Centre and each year selects 10 players to go forward into a High Performance Programme which incorporates individual training programmes in strength and conditioning,speed and agility and rugby specific skill.In addition all members of the academy are supported by a network of specialist coaches with the main aim of improving individual rugby performance.Places are highly sought ,and those selected have had to undergo a series of selection processes.
Commenting on Angus` selection,Andy Cummins, PRFC`S Rugby Development Officer says "Angus is showing great potential and the feedback from his coaches is very positive." He added,"Angus was one of the first to be involved in the Rugby after-school clubs held in Aberfeldy and it was clear from the start that he was very keen.He has a great work ethic and has a real passion for the game.We are expecting great things from him in the future."
Angus has to travel to Perth for training four nights a week so this places a lot of demands on his time and family life.Mike Broad,(Angus` father) says" we are delighted by Angus` selection.It is a great opportunity for him to develop his rugby.It is worth saying that this would not have happened were it not for the great work of the Highland Perthshire Sports Trust and their local coaching programme that Angus has been a part of for the last few years.It is really good that due to the Sports Trust youngsters from a rural area are now getting the same chances as city kids."

Highland Schools Rugby Development.

The Perthshire Rugby Development Team begin their next two week block of coaching in Pitlochry and Blair Atholl.The team in conjunction with Perth and Kinross Active Schools and The Highland Sports Trust have already visited primary schools in Breadalbane,Dunkeld,Grandtully,Kenmore,Logierait and admist the first flakes of snow Kinloch Rannoch.The reception from staff and students has been tremendous and in each block the children have received tuition in running technique, ball handling, passing and the basic rules of the game.
The results of all this hard effort should be seen later this term when all will be invited to take part in a touch tournament held in Aberfeldy.The date and site will be announced very shortly.
For all those children who wish to continue their rugby experience there are 2 afterschool rugby clubs : the first is held every Monday night 3.45pm ( at the Breadalbane astro) and Thursday night at Dunkeld Primary at 3.45pm.Both sessions last for 1 hour and cost £1.00.

Aberfeldy Astro is a Hit !

Many thanks to all those who attended the Aberfeldy after school club on Monday night, the first night on the new astro pitch.All those attending clearly enjoyed themselves and it was great to see everyone trying out their attacking skills on the wider pitch.Well done to Johnny and Hayden who both managed to pull off some outrageous dummies , and to Henry and Eddie who both mastered the switch pass.
Next week there will be some new skills drills and a new version of end ball.
All new players are very welcome and we look forward to seeing you all next Monday night.

School Astro

With the clocks going back and the onset of the wet weather we are moving the After School Rugby session and the Academy session up to the new school astro as of Monday 3 November. Please remember to bring your trainers.

Tayside Tigers

I’m thinking ahead to the next ‘Tayside Tigers’ training session. The Tayside Tigers is the select sides for the best young rugby players in Tayside. By the way I must congratulate Finlay Campbell from Ballinluig for being selected for the squad. Well done Finlay!
